Zakir’s research focuses on predicting personality from online digital data, as part of the lab’s Footprints project tracking individual differences across the internet and digital communication. More broadly, his work develops AI-driven solutions for health informatics, affective computing, and privacy-preserving AI, spanning machine learning, computer vision, and human-centred AI across academic, industry, and government collaborations.
Prior to ANU, Zakir held research and teaching positions at Curtin University, Macquarie University’s Centre for Health Informatics, and the ANU Research School of Computer Science, with visiting roles at the ANU Biological Data Science Institute and Data61, CSIRO. He has taught over 20 university courses and supervised PhD, master’s, and honours students across Australia and Bangladesh.
