Summary

This book chapter presents a detailed account of the Two-Dimensional Machiavellianism Scale (TDMS), covering its psychometric properties alongside the theory and interpretation of its two dimensions, Machiavellian views and tactics. The authors demonstrate the scale's reliability and validity using previously unpublished data from 4,747 participants who completed the measure through its companion website built on RStudio's Shiny platform. They explain how separating views from tactics sharpens the conceptual boundaries between Machiavellianism and other dark personality traits, particularly psychopathy. The chapter also offers practical guidance on administering and interpreting the TDMS in research. It appears in the edited volume Shining Light on the Dark Side of Personality, focused on measurement and theoretical advances.
